Health Policy
As parents ourselves, we understand that families have various positions regarding what they consider normal when it comes to wellness for school. At St. Philip's, we must be concerned about the health of all the children here, as well as the health of the teachers.
We recognize that young children tend to "catch" everything, and this can add up to a lot of sick days. Still, out of concern for the health of your own child and that of other children, we ask that you keep your young one home if they have a severe cold, if they have vomited the night before or early in the morning before school, or if they have signs of a serious/communicable illness or condition (including conjunctivitis and head lice). Children often just need rest to recover from an illness - even from a cold. Physicians recommend that a child stay home for 24 hours after the first dose of antibiotics as well as remain home for 24 hours after a return to a normal temperature after a fever.
Please notify the school if your child is absent due to illness. If you arrive at St. Philip's and the director feels that your child is not well enough to participate in the morning activities, she will ask you to take your child home. Should your child become ill while at nursery school, we will keep him or her separate from the other children and quiet until you or your designated emergency contact person can pick up your child. Thank you for understanding and complying with these policies.
